A BICESTER bandstand will join hundreds of venues nationwide that are celebrating the end of the Olympic summer.
A musical performance in Garth Park, Launton Road, is one of hundreds of outdoor concerts taking part across the UK tomorrow to mark the end of the London Olympic Games.
Bicester is the only place in the county staging a show as part of the nationwide Bandstand Marathon event.
Groups including Secklow Brass, The Method, The Ramps, Jamie Felton and Bicester Brass & Wind will play between 1pm and 5pm.
At 2pm on the final day of the Paralympic Games, bandstands nationwide, including the Olympic Park Bandstand, will see musicians of all kinds perform their own rendition of the Coldplay hit Viva la Vida. In Bicester, 15-year-old Jamie Felton will take centre stage to perform the song.
A total of 217 bandstands in towns and cities have been selected to host free music events.
Bicester Town Council, which is organising the town event, is urging people to go to Garth Park and help celebrate the end of the 2012 games.
Bicester’s mayor Dan Sames said: “We have had a great summer of events at Garth Park and taking part in the Bandstand Marathon will be a fantastic finale to the programme.
“It will be great to see some fabulous local musicians performing and I hope lots of people come down to support the event.”
Ash Adams, of band The Method, said: “We got involved in the bandstand Marathon because its a great local event for up and coming artists. People can expect a lot of catchy original music and some popular covers. It’s going to be a great day for a beer and live music.”
The Bandstand Marathon is part of the London 2012 Festival, a 12-week nationwide celebration of dance, music, arts and theatre running from June 21 to September 9.
