I AM writing to nominate Cllrs Tanner and Sanders for the Nobel Prize for Physics. With their statement that ‘most’ London commuters will escape the proposed £3 charge for parking over 11 hours at Thornhill park and ride (August 29), they have obviously discovered the secret of time travel.
Either that, or average working days just got a lot shorter and peak-hour buses from Oxford into central London a whole lot faster.
Indeed, without bending the space-time continuum, the majority will surely struggle to park up, travel into central London by bus, complete their journey by foot, bus or tube, work for eight hours and make the exact same return journey all within 11 hours.
Perhaps instead of carping about coalition cuts making parking charges necessary, Cllrs Tanner and Sanders could take their Tardis back to 1997 and tell Blair and Brown that the good times won’t last forever and it might be prudent to leave some money in the pot for a rainy day in about, say, 10 years’ time.
Just a thought.
