A WITNEY woman has raised more than £2,600 to thank the cancer care charity that helped her 13-year-old grandson.
Garvey Evans, who has just finished treatment for a brain tumour, carried the Olympic Torch through Cornwall when it arrived in the UK back in May.
He received his last chemotherapy treatment for a brain tumour on Thursday – the day after his 13th birthday.
He was diagnosed with cancer 18 months ago when he was 11.
His family, who live in Cornwall, were given a place to stay by charity Clic Sargent while the youngster received treatment in Bristol.
His grandmother Pamela Evans, 79, from the Deer Park estate in Witney, held a fundraising sale at High Street Methodist Church on Saturday – including the chance to have your picture taken holding Garvey’s Olympic Torch.
Mrs Evans, pictured with Garvey and the torch, said: “It went very, very well. We had a lot of people and a lot of interest in the torch and Garvey. He was thrilled”
