PREMIER League football chairman Dave Whelan has spoken of his vision for his new gym – and his desire to work with Oxford United .
The Wigan Athletic chief has bought the Ozone gym from Firoz Kassam ’s Firoka Group and will run it under his DW Fitness Clubs brand.
The gym closed last week, but is expected to re-open within days after a £200,000 refit.
Mr Whelan told the Oxford Mail: “I think it’s a very good spot, so close to Oxford United.
“I have a gym very close to (Wigan’s ground) the DW Stadium which has done very well and we hope the Oxford one will be the same.
“Hopefully the football club will become just as successful.”
Mr Whelan – who knows U’s chairman Ian Lenagan through the latter’s ownership of Wigan Warriors rugby league club – said new jobs would be created and all equipment replaced.
He added: “I’ve always wanted to get into Oxford. It’s busy and has a lot going for it.”
