I WRITE to ask if any of your readers will be able to help me. For some years I have been researching the Abingdon Branch Railway that ran from Radley to Abingdon and closed to passenger traffic in 1963, with the remaining goods traffic ceasing in 1984. Initially this research was undertaken to gather the necessary information to assist in building a 4mm model of the station and the goods yard.

But, like a lot of these projects, the bank of information has grown so much it has built into a valuable historical resource.

I want, in the future, to open this up to anyone who wishes to learn about the branch line.

In addition to this, I now receive invitations from local groups to give them talks about the railway. People’s personal recollections of the branch line should be documented before they are lost forever.

If any readers have and would be prepared to share their memories, I would be pleased if they could contact me. I am also keen to collect images of the railway, regardless of their date. On completion, this resource of information is to be made available, with no financial gain, to anyone wishing to study it. Contact can be made by email: abingdonbranch@yahoo.co.uk; www abingdonbranch.co.uk and click on contact us, or phone: 07733 467342.
