JUST when they thought it safe to rock out, organisers of one of Oxfordshire’s biggest festivals are facing another battle over noise.
A councillor is moving to tighten up noise limits at Cornbury Park’s Wilderness Festival following complaints about this month’s event.
West Oxfordshire District Council ’s Liz Leffman wants to cut the Sunday music licence from 2am to midnight.
Organisers won a battle in January last year to hold more events, despite protests from some residents.
Mrs Leffman said residents were not disturbed on the first two nights of the festival, which ran from August 10 to 12.
But a change in wind direction blew the sound towards Charlbury on the last night, Sunday. She said: “There was a very distinct sound from the site all over Charlbury going on to about 2am in the morning. People felt that was unreasonable because it was Sunday night.”
Council spokesman Sam Henry said officers are carrying out checks and looking into a “small number” of complaints to see if the licence had been breached. Festival spokesman Nicola Rutledge said: “This year’s Wilderness Festival satisfied its licence conditions in relation to noise levels.”
