WI MEMBERS weren’t late for a very important date as their annual garden party went ahead in true Alice in Wonderland style.
Tea and cake was served to members in fancy dress in celebration of the famous tale, written in Oxford by Lewis Caroll.
The Childrey and Sparsholt WI group adopted the theme for the event at Manor Farm in West Challow.
WI member Vera Lazarus, 83, pictured right with Barbara Talmage, said the event had been a huge success.
She said: “We do it every year, but this is the first time we’ve had a theme, and it was really good fun.
“We always raise quite a lot of money and we use that for educational causes.”
Lewis Caroll, in real life Christ Church maths don Charles Dodgson, wrote the story after telling it to Alice Liddell on a boat trip up the Thames to Godstow.
He was asked to put the tale down on paper and it became one of the most popular children’s books ever published.
