Sir — Thank you for your continued coverage of the parking issues in the Cutteslowe Park area.
In last week’s issue you reported on the public meeting called by local county councillors, John Goddard and Jean Fooks, to discuss the parking proposals.
John Goddard opened the meeting by stating that he would not discuss three things:

  • Parking charges in the park — interesting because this is the main cause of the problems in the Harbord Road and Kendall Crescent areas.
  • Displacement parking — interesting again because this is the effect that the proposals will have (it is 100 per cent inevitable that the commuters and those who wish to avoid the Cutteslowe Park parking charges will simply move to other roads).
  • A residents’ parking scheme — probably the only real solution to the problems.

In summary the meeting did not discuss the cause, the effect or the only sensible solution — bingo!
After the meeting some residents tried to address the issue of the inevitable displacement of the parking problems and discovered, not only are the local councillors aware of this, they are prepared to see it happen.
We are in danger of being like lambs to the slaughter, local residents take note. Please, please, please, just for once could we have some sensible strategic planning which covers the whole area?
