Why is queuing for a bus at Carfax in Oxford in the evening such an ordeal?
Very few seem to have any idea of what a bus queue is, or what its purpose is.
Complain? Voice one's opinion? The response is always the same - silence or a glowering contempt as if it is you and not they who are rude. Queue jumping is par for the course. It seems people can behave with impudence with impunity.
Bad manners and selfish behaviour are now an expected feature of waiting for a No 1, 10, or 3 bus every evening. It seems a sad feature of Oxford that such ill-mannered, selfish individualism is the expected norm. It is, sadly, a feature of the "me first, me last, me always" mentality that has now come to dominate society.
Why should middle-aged and older passengers, as well as mothers with children, have to tolerate the pushy, oafish and ignorant queue jumpers?
Oh for the days when we had conductors on buses and inspectors standing near.
Oh for the days when we all had some manners.
