Banbury United turned on the style in their first qualifying round replay to beat Taunton Town 5-1 on Tuesday night to earn a trip to Marlow in the next round.

They went into the lead after seven minutes. Robin Woodward brought down Andy Baird in the penalty area and Ady Fuller stepped up to convert the spot-kick.

The Puritans extended their lead on 14 minutes when a mix-up in the Taunton defence allowed leading goalscorer Howard Forinton to slot in.

Sonyo De Mata pulled one back, but it soon became 3-1, with Stuart Bridges blasting home.

After the break, De Mata miskicked a good opportunity wide before Banbury killed off the match with their fourth goal.

A great through ball from Darren Pond released Jon Gardner, who took it into the area and fired home. A minute later, Gardner was substituted!

Goal No 5 came from a superb solo run by Tommy Kinch.

Banbury had been held to a goalless draw by the Division 1 South & West leaders in a highly-entertaining encounter on Saturday.

Kicking against a strong wind in the first half, Banbury looked dangerous early on against a Taunton side who have yet to be beaten this season. The visitors' lively striking duo of Andy Baird and Howard Forinton were a constant theeat.

Play then switched from end to end, with both sides looking to get the early break, and in the 21st minute, Taunton almost broke the deadlock.

From a right-wing corner, Ronnie Mowatt rose unchallenged, only to see his header come back off the bar.

Ten minutes later, it was Banbury's turn to curse the woodwork when an Ady Fuller free-kick was headed across the goal by Wayne Blossom to Stuart Bridges, whose shot beat Ian Jones, only to rebound off a post, before being cleared.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first, with both sides again looking for the breakthrough.

In the 54th minute, Banbury had the best chance of the game.

Bridges found Jon Gardner completely unmarked by the penalty spot, but the former Thame United striker scuffed his shot well wide.
