ONCE again, Ken Roper has written to the Oxford Mail on motoring matters and once again has got his facts completely wrong.
Vehicle excise duty is levied on all vehicles according to the amount of carbon dioxide they emit.
This duty varies from nil for emissions of less than 100g/kilometre to £475 for emissions of more than 256g/km.
If Mr Roper is paying £35pa, his car, diesel or petrol, is in Band C of the VED.
Someone paying £165pa would have a vehicle in Band G.
Diesel particulates have no place in the VED.
If they did the diesels would be taxable and petrol engines, which cannot emit diesel particulates, would pay no tax. Can you see that happening?
To find out how much CO2 is emitted by a vehicle just look at the second page of Form V5C – previously known as the logbook – and the actual CO2 figures are about one third down in the left hand column.
