Villagers may not be pleased, but the proposal to fill in Shipton-on-Cherwell quarry, possibly opening the way for new housing in the future, is a scheme that should be supported.

It is a brownfield site, an eyesore, near a railway line and whatever is put there is bound to be an improvement.

Oxfordshire will probably have to find room for more than its fair share of new housing demanded by the Government in the South East.

One of the big issues over the location of new homes has been the effect on commuter traffic.

The farther away people live from their work, the greater the temptation to drive and add to traffic problems.

The Shipton-on-Cherwell site will have the Oxford-Banbury railway line passing alongside, providing easy access to Oxford and stations beyond.

Even the Greens have seen the benefits of exploiting this site for homes. The other parties should follow suit.
