A good Samaritan who stopped to help an injured man in the centre of Oxford had his mobile phone stolen and was then assaulted, police said today.
Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident during the early hours of last Tuesday on St Aldates.
At 12.30am, the 22-year-old man stopped to help a drunken man who had collapsed.
He lent his mobile phone to another person, who handed it to a man who walked off down Blue Boar Street.
The 22-year-old followed him and asked for his phone back. The offender assaulted him, hitting him several times in the head, and the victim later attended the John Radcliffe Hospital for treatment.
