VISITORS to the annual Art in Action event are being warned to bring their wellies, but organisers say the event will go ahead as planned tomorrow.

The show attracts more than 25,000 visitors each year to the Waterperry Estate, near Wheatley.

It sees about 400 artists, musicians and teachers come together in four days of classes, performances and exhibitions.

The event starts at 10am tomorrow and runs until 5pm on Sunday.

Event spokesman Anna Arthur said: “The site at Waterperry has had extensive work done to combat these type of conditions and luckily most of the activity is under canvas, although a raincoat and Wellingtons will be useful.”

Raymond Cook, 71, is looking after the Commonwealth tent, housing a collection of artists from around the world, brought together to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

He said: “This is something entirely new – we have artists from South Africa, Canada, New Zealand and beyond.

“The important thing is that we’re going on, undeterred by the weather.”

Parking facilities have been changed after heavy rain made the fields at the estate unusable.

Visitors will now be directed by signs from the M40 motorway to the Oakley airfield, in nearby Worminghall. Shuttle buses will run throughout the day to and from the venue. The event opens at 10am.
