A COUNTY MP asked Justice Minister Nick Herbert what police forces are doing to tackle child exploitation in the wake of a “deeply distressing” child sex case in Oxford.
Oxford West and Abingdon MP Nicola Blackwood spoke in the wake of Thames Valley Police’s Operation Bullfinch inquiry into an alleged child sex ring.
The Conservative told the House of Commons last week: “The minister is aware that a deeply distressing child sexual exploitation case is currently being prosecuted in my constituency.
“What training and support are being offered to police forces to ensure that they can spot the signs of exploitation early and have the confidence to share and act on intelligence so that we can prevent these terrible crimes?”
Mr Herbert said the Government was working with police chiefs on “training of frontline police officers in tackling child sexual exploitation”.
Eight men have now been charged following arrests by officers from Thames Valley Police’s Operation Bullfinch team. Officers believe up to 50 children were abused.
