These young dancers delighted audiences 35 years ago. They were members of the Jackie Bebbington School of Dancing, based at Rose Hill, Oxford.

The girls were pictured rehearsing in 1971 for an important date in London.

They had been chosen to take part in what was billed as a Dancing Schools' Spectacular at the Theatre Royal, in Drury Lane.

Schools from all over the country had been chosen to take part in the show, in aid of the Arts Association of Stage Schools.

The girls are, back row, left to right: Dawn Phelps, Alison Juggins, Lisa Heeley, Wendy Nelson, Suzanne Webb and Mary Cook; front row: Gillian Smith, Jane Ellis, Susan Walsh, Beverley Howe and Sandra Woods.

Productions by the Jack Bebbington dancers were some of the most eagerly awaited events on the Rose Hill estate and attracted enthusiastic audiences.

Ms Bebbington taught dancing at Rose Hill for more than 50 years.

Thanks to her, generations of children had their first opport- unity to appear on stage. One of the highlights of the year was the annual pantomime.

Among the most successful were Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in the 1950s and Cinderella in the 1960s.

Dancing classes were held for a while at Singletree, the former home of Frank and Elizabeth Pakenham, later Lord and Lady Longford, and now part of a sheltered housing complex for the elderly.

Later, when the community centre was built, they were switched there.

Over the years, children raised thousands of pounds for charity and other worthy causes, including Rose Hill School.
