Banbury MP Sir Tony Baldry has welcomed plans to reform the UK’s social care system to help carers.

The Conservative co-chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Carers Group, said the Social Care White Paper would help carers.

This includes extending the right to a carer’s assessment and the setting of a minimum eligibility threshold for support.

Sir Tony said: “Legislation in due course will give carers considerably greater rights than they have at present.”

But the Local Government Association said the plans do not go far enough and OAPs and carers “face at least a further five years of uncertainty”.
