THE DVLA is to close its Oxford office, the Government has confirmed.

The city centre office in Cambridge Terrace will shut down on October 31 next year with the loss of 10 jobs. The DVLA will close 39 regional offices to save £26m with the loss of 1,213 jobs.

Some 450 jobs will be available at its Swansea HQ and other roles will be sought in the civil service.

It is seeking other venues to offer DVLA services such as registering, exporting and taxing vehicles.

Public and Commercial Services Union general secretary Mark Serwotka said: “As a result of this government’s politically-motivated obsession with cuts, our communities stand to lose another 1,200 jobs and the public and traders will lose a service they rely on.”

The DVLA said more services will be offered to motor dealers digitally which Roads Minister Mike Penning said would “give customers more choice and flexibility”.
