CAROL Esplin raised a cuppa in a toast to a pioneering Oxford hospice yesterday.

She organised a tea party at Savages, in London Road, Blewbury, to raise money for Helen and Douglas House and to help to celebrate the East Oxford charity’s 30th birthday.

“We have had an army of people helping out and we probably had more than 100 people come for tea,” she said.

“This is the sixth year we have been holding this event and there are regulars who look forward to it each year.”

Ms Esplin managed to raise £650 from her tea party.

This year marks the 30th since the foundation of Helen House, which was the first hospice in the world to care for children with life-shortening conditions.

Douglas House was opened in 2004 to care for young adults.
