POLICE say they are not linking a mass brawl that broke out in Cowley Marsh Park to any other incidents or gang rivalries.

Two people have now been arrested in connection with the fight on Tuesday, which left two people hospitalised.

Police believe between 10 and 12 people fought each other with sticks and metal bars in the football cage at the park.

Last night police spokesman Alice Adderley said they believed the fight, which happened at around 8.50pm, had been an argument which escalated into violence.

It was not believed to have been pre-planned.

A 17-year-old was treated at the John Radcliffe Hospital with facial bruising.

An 18- year-old sustained serious injuries to his face, including fractures. He will now need surgery.

An 18-year-old man and 17-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and bailed until August 16.

Dc Steve Martin said: “I would appeal to anyone who was walking through the park who witnessed the incident, as well as anyone in residential properties overlooking the park who saw what happened, to come forward.”
