Your report about antisocial behaviour (Thursday’s Oxford Mail) gives the impression that £268,000 of lottery funding was spent on improving youth facilities on the Wood Farm estate.
I wish this had been the case.
The funding was spent on improvements to children’s play areas and was not directed at teenagers.
Provision for young people on Wood Farm remains very limited and the youth centre is providing a much-reduced service compared with a year ago, because of the impact of the devastating cuts to the county council’s youth service.
Youth work has a key role to play in reducing antisocial behaviour but the impact is diminished when you are operating on a shoestring budget.
