IT LOOKS like a May dance, but this one took place in June. Children put on a display of country and maypole dancing to mark the opening of a nursery class at Cutteslowe First School in North Oxford in 1983.
The official opening was performed by John Garne, former chief education officer.
A large cake in the shape of a train was cut by the first school’s previous headteacher, Kathleen White.
The day ended with children and their parents enjoying a picnic on the school field.
Children at the new nursery included some who had transferred from the recently closed North Oxford nursery school in Jackson Road, whose headteacher was Margaret Baker.
