PRIME Minister and Witney MP David Cameron is to be complimented on his strong statement of support for the rights and freedom of the Falkland Islanders.
In contrast, no such support has been given to the islanders living on the British Indian Ocean territory of Diego Garcia when, in a sordid arrangement between Harold Wilson’s government and Washington, they were ethnically cleansed, forced from their homes and their beloved pets slaughtered, in order to construct yet another US air-base.
A British High Court ruling in favour of the islanders’ return was shamefully overturned by the then Prime Minister Tony Blair in 2004, using an archaic Order of Council.
Why is it that British subjects are defended in one place but abandoned and “shamefully treated” (as a British judge said) in another?
