A COUPLE are planning to cycle 300 miles across Costa Rica to raise money for Oxford’s Pegasus Theatre.

Paul Cox and wife Antonia, both 50, from Abingdon, will set off on their journey on November 3, with the aim of raising £5,000 for the Magdalen Road venue.

The journey across the Central American country, from the Pacific to the Caribbean, will take in varied terrains, including several active volcanoes, and is expected to take eight days to complete.

Mrs Cox said: “We went to a concert by Radiohead drummer Phil Selway at the theatre last November and were so impressed by the work it does for young people we wanted to do something to help out.

“Paul and I turn 50 this year, as does Pegasus.

“While we enjoy cycling, this is the first time we've done anything like this.

“We've been training hard, taking part in some cycling events of between 60 and 75 miles and Paul will be competing in a couple of triathlons this summer.

“We’re already getting a lot of support and will be absolutely thrilled to meet our target, as it will mean so much for Pegasus Theatre.”

Pegasus business development manager Dominique Cadiou said: “We’re so proud of Paul and Antonia devoting their time to our cause in this way. We wish them the very best of luck and urge everyone to support their challenge.”
