READING the article about Oxford City Council bringing in more money than anticipated from its park and ride car parks (Tuesday’s Oxford Mail), this can be easily explained.
Recently the ability to book five days’ parking from the online booking system has been removed (one to four days and then seven days are available).
In effect, I can book parking for seven days for £7.70, thereby reserving spaces over the weekend I don’t (or rarely) use.
Then customers pay £1.50 at the machines for the same spaces.
Where do they get the usage figures from?
Is it combined machine and online, (the online company states booking a space does not guarantee a parking space) so it’s not really a discount is it?
