Sir – One of the great pleasures of living in North Oxford is to wander through the Trap Grounds. This little area has easy public access from the canal path south of Frenchay Road bridge and, despite of the occasional roar of a nearby train, is a haven of peace in our modern world.
The place is alive with varied and fascinating flora and fauna. There are beautiful birds — see the kingfisher feeding by the pond; there are rare birds — look, there’s a water rail; there are many breeding birds — hear, and maybe see, the reed warblers in the reeds.
Then there are the animals, the amphibians and the wealth of beautiful and interesting insects, including the rather exotic glow-worm.
Wildlife issues cannot be irrelevant to this lovely place.
Diane Wilson (Mrs), Oxford
