Oxfordshire rock band Radiohead cancelled a concert after the stage collapsed, killing a British sound technician.
The stage at the gig in Toronto, Canada, collapsed about an hour before the band, who met while at Abingdon School, were about to perform on Saturday.
It was reported that drum technician Scott Johnson, 33, from Doncaster in Yorkshire, died when the top portion of the stage fell on him as he was setting up for the show.
Three other people were injured, paramedics said.
Tributes have been paid to the crew member.
Geoff Barrow, instrumentalist with Bristol band Portishead, said: “Shocking to hear the passing of Scott Johnson.
“My thoughts and condolences are with everyone involved.”
Tim Burgess, lead singer of The Charlatans, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of Scott Johnson.”
A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: “The family has been notified and we have offered consular assistance.”
