A BICESTER volunteer has been rewarded for seven years’ hard work by winning a charity’s top accolade.

Alex Benjafield has won the British Heart Foundation (BHF) retail volunteer of the year award for his work in the charity’s shop in Sheep Street, Bicester.

Mr Benjafield, 26, was given the award for his dedication and commitment to the heart foundation.

As part of the 35-strong shop team, Mr Benjafield’s role includes sorting new stock, tagging and steaming items and serving customers on the till.

He said: “I am delighted to have been given such a prestigious title as there are so many worthy volunteers who give their time to the BHF. It has been rewarding work and I have enjoyed the last seven years.

“I have made some wonderful friends and have so many lovely memories.

“I would encourage anyone to volunteer as it is such a rewarding experience and lots of fun.”

Gareth Julian, fundraising volunteer manager in Oxfordshire, said: “I am delighted we can recognise Alex’s commitment.

“He is always at the forefront of all events and seems to effortlessly juggle numerous tasks at one time to help bring in as much money as possible.

“I would love for other people in Oxfordshire to follow Alex’s example.”
