A MAN who robbed a 13-year-old boy in a lengthy drunken attack is facing jail.

Cameron Evans, 19, repeatedly struck the boy and stole his mobile phone, cash and headphones.

The incident, which lasted 23 minutes according to CCTV evidence, took place in Barton on March 16.

Evans, of Stowford Road on the Oxford estate, admitted robbery at Oxford Crown Court on Friday.

His basis of plea, read out in court by defence barrister Phillipa Eastwood, stated: “On the evening of March 16 he had been drinking – at the time he was dependent on alcohol and was drinking every day. He is now dealing with his addiction.

“The robbery was not premeditated or planned. He did not know how young (the victim) was, nor intentionally target him because of his age. He accepts he punched him a number of times.”

Evans, who has previous convictions for causing actual bodily harm and battery, was told by Judge Mary Jane Mowat that a sentence of 40 months’ imprisonment was likely.

She said: “This was by any standard a prolonged attack which caused significant pain and injury to the victim.”

Evans was remanded in custody to be sentenced on July 27.
