GIVEN the cynicism surrounding some commercial elements of the Olympic build-up in recent weeks, we are happy to see Oxfordshire companies at the heart of making the games happen.

The Olympic Games are about sport first and foremost, but also about showcasing the very best of the host country.

So it is good to know that when we watch the opening and closing ceremonies, and the sporting action, we have the satisfaction of knowing Oxfordshire companies have played their part. It is important economically too, as these contracts will boost our local economy. And it is right the companies are getting recognition.

The fact that logos will be blacked out at the South Park torch event is ridiculous, as is the fact that the name of the Oxfordshire baker who is making all the bread for the games must remain secret – all because they are not official sponsors.

It might not be printed on the T-shirts, and it might not say it in the official TV credits, but we are proud to declare: the 2012 London Olympic Games has been brought to you in association with Oxfordshire.
