TWO Mondays ago, I took a short walk from my present address to the Alexandra Road street party, where I lived for 40 years before moving here nine years ago, crossing over the long, long Botley Road.
It seems that this was the only street party locally that day, which seems a shame, knowing the number of roads there are in this area.
Due to adverse weather forecasts, they combined with neighbours Hill View Road, and what a success it was.
Flags were at rooftop height; shelter from the rain which never came; even the sun shone; tables groaned with food.
But the best surprises were meeting old friends again and being introduced to newcomers a quarter of my age, making my wife and I very welcome.
I would just like to say thank you for the efforts made by all the people in both roads.
There is a saying ‘never go back’ but in this case it was the exception.
