People can get back to nature and see where their food comes from when Open Farm Sunday throws open its barn doors this weekend.

Now in its seventh year, the event gives people a fun insight into farming.

The range of events include nature walks to tractor and trailer rides, and pond dipping to feeding animals. More than 300 farms across the country take part in Open Farm Sunday and organisers LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) hope it will notch up its millionth visitor in 2012.

One of those taking part in the fun this year is Wicklesham Lodge Farm in Faringdon.

Tom Allen-Stevens, who farms at Wicklesham said: “This year there’ll be real opportunities to discover bits of the farm rarely seen before.

“People can enjoy a tractor and trailer ride, see the lambs and the chicks, and take part in Britain’s biggest ever bug hunt.”

The farm, along with scores of others across the UK, is also taking part in a survey of pollinating insects.

Gates open on Sunday at 11am and farm tours take place every hour from 11.30am.

The gardens will also be open, including the kitchen garden and pond.

Dogs on leads are also welcome and entrance to all the participating farms is free.
