WITH reference to councillor Mick Haines’s letter (last Friday’s ViewPoints), I, for one, would like to thank him for getting Lord Nelson’s quote reinstated on the Scout hall in William Street.
Many years ago now, from 1939-46, I attended St Michael and All Angels’ Church School, near the Scout hall.
We were wartime children and I can tell you we were referred to the quotation many times by our loyal teachers: “England expects ever man to do his duty”.
We were loyal too, and sang national songs and knitted socks for soldiers as part of lessons. We did our duty to King and country.
So please make sure this quotation remains as a permanent feature for all time.
