MORE than 30 jobs have been saved at a waste management firm after it was bought out of administration.

The future looked bleak for the 33 workers at Chilton Waste Services based at Chilton, near Didcot, when it went into administration last month.

But the company was snapped up by Hampshire-based Raymond Brown Minerals and Recycling (RBMR) with all jobs transferring to the new owner.

Director Steve Clasby said: “When Chilton Waste Services came up for sale, we realised it was a great opportunity but had to move quickly to prevent it from falling into irreparable financial distress.

“The acquisition marks a significant milestone for RBMR, adding to our growing network of recycling facilities across the South. Geographically the site couldn’t be better placed, extending the reach of our services north into Oxfordshire.”

The Chilton recycling facility can process up to 150,000 tonnes of waste a year including wood, plastic and cardboard from skips and wheelie bins supplied to builders and industrial facilities.

Bosses hope to increase the amount of waste recycled at Chilton from 35 per cent to 90 per cent in future, reducing the amount being sent to landfill.

The purchase, for an undisclosed sum, included the company’s trade, plant and equipment plus its 13-acre freehold site at Prospect Farm. It will now operate under the Raymond Brown name.
