Sir – Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee was a wonderful opportunity for the whole community to come together in celebration here in Middle Barton and across Oxfordshire and the whole nation and commonwealth, but I wonder if other readers noticed an apparently minor event in London, on Tuesday, which meant more to me than almost anything else.
During the procession from Westminster to Buckingham Palace, as the royal carriages passed the Cenotaph in Whitehall, the Prince of Wales and the two young princes removed their top hats.
This simple act of respect to our Fallen, even on such a happy day, deserves to be more widely known.
Richard Samuelson, Middle Barton
