Derrick Holt’s letter (Oxford Mail ViewPoints, May 14) is sadly spot on. What he fails to mention is that manufacturing industry in this country has suffered by the lack of patriotism.

Our people buy German products such as cars. The French closed their Peugeot factory in Coventry and our people still buy their cars now produced in France.

This would be unthinkable in France if the same thing had happened to them. The French buy very little from us.

I travel throughout Germany and spotting a British-made car on their autobahns is like spotting a needle in a haystack.

Two years ago steelworks in Teeside closed down and the employees driving out of the gate were in mostly foreign-produced cars, therefore foreign steel.

I have two vehicles, a Range Rover and a Jaguar, which I bought new two years ago.

The truth of the matter is – buy your own country’s product and keep your job, buy foreign products and lose your job.
