CHERWELL enforcement officers want the public’s help after more tyres were dumped in the district.

In the latest incident 125 tyres were dumped in a lay-by in Fenny Compton Road, Claydon, near Banbury.

The incident, between 7pm last Wednesday and 6am on Thursday, was the second time tyres had been dumped in the area.

More than 1,000 dumped tyres have been cleared up by Cherwell District Council since the start of the year and council enforcement officers are exploring several lines of inquiry.

Nigel Morris, the district council’s executive member for clean and green, said: “We really need help from the public to clamp down on this.

“Tyres should be disposed of in the correct way but this costs companies money, so the less scrupulous will dump them in secluded spots.

“I would appeal to anyone with information or who spots anything suspicious to report it to us in confidence.”

Anyone who spots anything suspicious or feels they have information which could help the council catch the culprits should email customer.service@cherwell-dc.gov.uk or call 01295 227983 in confidence.
