Bicester Rotary Club raised £600 for the town’s foodbank after trawling almost 30 pubs and bars.

Members took buckets in hand to collected cash from pub goes in the town and surrounding villages over two nights last month.

Spokesman Peter Todd said “The response from the public was brilliant, and the collection certainly raised people’s awareness of the plight in which many local families and individuals find themselves in these difficult economic times.

“Many people were unaware of the existence of the Food Bank in Bicester let alone the demand for its service, which has doubled in the last year alone.

“We met individuals who had used the Food Bank in the past who now, being in a more fortunate position, were delighted to make a donation.”
