OUTGOING county council chairman Patrick Greene raised £10,000 for the Fire Fighters Charity during his year in office.

And with money raised by Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service it brings the total donation to more than £80,000.

Mr Greene raised money through events including his Gala Dinner which netted more than £3,000.

And another £7,000 was raised at a ladies’ driving challenge at Dalton Barracks, in Abingdon.

Mr Greene said: “It was a pleasure to support this worthy charity and help raise its profile.”

The charity rehabilitates injured firefighters and gives respite to their families.

The Tory councillor, who was chairman of Oxfordshire County Council until April, recently handed over the cheques and met crews at Rewley Road fire station in Oxford.
