Sir, Yesterday I found the Thames reservoir exhibition at the Guildhall in Abingdon, despite there being no information notices about the exhibition either outside or even inside the building.
The impression that Thames Water are just going through the charade of pretending to inform the public was reinforced at the sparsely-attended exhibition by there being only an outline plan of the reservoir on display. Questioning of Thames Water staff revealed that the embankment would be 25 metres high on the north side.
Hiding the embankment wall will not be as easy as hiding the exhibition as 25 metres represents a nine-storey high, flat-topped escarpment hundreds of metres long, blocking views particularly looking from the north and west. So no more sunsets for residents of Drayton.
There was no cross section of this vast construction or drawings of its visual impact in the landscape on any of the numerous display panels. I was informed that these impact drawings may be shown at the next exhibition.
Thames Water has known how big and what a massive visual impact this monstrosity will have in the landscape for many years and I worry that they may continue withholding images that will truly show its colossal size from the public until after they have been granted their Public Works Order from the Government to proceed with construction.
