Appleton, Eaton & Besselsleigh joint forces to celebrate the Jubilee with everything from: A 65ft Helter Skelter to a tin bath, jazz to Rock, picnics to tea parties, we had something for everyone.
The weekend started with the opening of Appleton’s Jubilee Park then down the lane you wandered to the ‘Exhibition of life over the last 60 years’, showing village history, fashion and household items over the decades; A quick dash home to pack your picnic then off to Appleton Manor for Jazz and fireworks, 500 people just managed to picnic in the dry before the heavens opened and the British stiff upper lip and umbrellas came out. Sundays Jubilee church service gave everyone chance to celebrate and raise their voices. Monday brought with it sunshine, a three hour peal of the church bells for which Appleton is famous, which rounded up 500+ folk to The Plough, for the Tea party of all tea parties you couldn’t miss the 65ft Helter skelter in the car park. Giant castles for the children to play in, magic for young and old and a mountain of party food then we finished the celebrations off by being rocked into the evening with Evolution playing ‘dad’s rock!’ .
All these events were organised & funded by the villagers for the villages to enjoy.
