My name is Mrs Amanda Woodage. Back in March I thought it would be a great idea to get my neighbours of the cull-De-sac ( houses 22-54 of Orwell drive) all together and have a street party to celebrate the Queens Jubilee.
I wrote to the neighbours to see who would be interested and most of them agreed it would be a great idea. So that was it, We held our first meeting, and things started to get organised.
We decided to have it on Sunday 3rd June from 12noon onwards. People would bring and share food, we had two big BBQ's, we also decided to hold a raffle where all the prizes were donated by the neighbours and guests.
I applied for the temporary events licence and road closure, held more meeting!
We had been having so much lovely weather lately we hoped it would last for our party yesterday, but alas it didn't rain, rain, and more rain. But the party when on, all the neighbours were up nice and early, we started putting up the bunting, gazebo's, tents, tables, chairs. We had people decorating them with flags and balloons it was beginning to take shape, But still the rain was coming down.
We had a few games of skittles, a Quiz with answers from the decades, but unfortunately due to the weather there was no bouncing on a bouncy castle, or hop scotch playing.
We played lots of good music from all the decades, we were dancing in our chairs, but one point we got up and done the locomotion around the close!!!
People donated over 40 prizes! it was so appreciated, all the monies raised from the raffle we decided to give to The Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund, all given in memory of Eric Barton.
Although it rained most of the day, great fun was had by all.
I have attached some of our pictures.
