A convicted burglar who escaped from the dock at Oxford Crown Court was recaptured today.
Jamal Coleman, 21, of no fixed abode, jumped from the dock on Monday, October 9, before running down the stairs and out of the front door into St Aldate's before security staff could stop him.
He was arrested by Thames Valley Police's Cherwell priority crime team at 9.45am at an address in Birmingham, and was taken to Banbury police station where he was being interviewed on suspicion of escaping from lawful custody.
Police spokesman Victoria Bartlett said: "The crime team, working with Banbury CID, made the arrest after following up several leads.
"These included tip-offs from members of the public and intelligence gathered by officers who door-knocked Coleman's previous addresses."
When Coleman appeared in court, he admitted stealing jewellery worth £27,000 in a burglary at Lumbers' jewellery shop in High Street, Banbury. He is from the Banbury area.
Coleman fled moments after being sentenced to two years' imprisonment, and members of the public were warned not to approach him.
