A man accused of murdering his ex-wife's new husband has denied his alibi was "rubbish" and "lies".

Allan Kimber, 41, of Stert Street, Abingdon, denies murdering Gary Morgan at Danesbrook Farm, Stanton St John, on October 17 last year.

Mr Morgan, 37, was shot in the neck at about 3.30am.

Kimber, who was caught on CCTV leaving his Abingdon flat at about 2am that morning and returning at about 4am, had told the jury at Oxford Crown Court that he met a man called 'Tosh' to exchange illegal firearms at 2.30am.

Neil Moore, prosecuting, asked Kimber today to explain why, if the deal had only taken minutes, he did not return home until 4am.

Kimber said: "I drove up to Bagley Wood to strip and clean the gun I'd just been given back, then returned to my car where I sat reading a magazine, having a cigarette, listening to the radio and just chilling out."

Mr Moore asked: "You just thought you would chill out? Or are you just inventing an account of how you spent your time?"

Kimber replied: "No".

Mr Moore continued: "It's rubbish, isn't it, Mr Kimber?"

"No," he said.

Mr Moore added: "You knew you would have to account for this time and you're accounting for this by telling this jury lies."

Mr Moore also suggested to Kimber that a balaclava found in a coat in his car was worn by him during the shooting.

He replied: "Being that I didn't shoot Gary Morgan it would be a bit difficult."

The case continues.
