PREMIER side Gillan’s Bar were forced to come from behind after they were given a scare by newly-promoted Section 2 outfit Berinsfield Community Centre in the ladies’ league.
Nina Chewings and Mel Jones gave the underdogs a 2-0 lead.
But the more experienced home side hit back to lead 4-2 with wins from Lorraine Singleton, Shaz Thompson, Sue Smith and Chris Thompson.
The home side’s 2-1 pairs win increased their margin to 6-3.
The all-Section 1 clash brought together Red Lion and the visiting Florence Park Community Centre B.
The hosts quickly seized control as Carl Gasser, June Rouse and Ali Bateman gave them a 3-0 lead.
The visitors narrowed the gap to 3-2, but Iris Doyle held her nerve to give the Lion a 4-2 advantage.
They went on to win the pairs 2-1 for a 6-3 success.
Section 2’s Folly Bridge Inn A have made a good start to the season and completed a winning double over the Crown Inn with a narrow 5-4 win.
Donnington Community Centre A also got off to a flying start when they visited Gladiators Social Club B.
They came out on top in both the singles and the pairs, eventually running out 6-3 winners.
