ASTON Rowant were crowned league champions at The Spread Eagle Hotel, Thame - but the big winners on the night were Horspath, who collected an unprecedented four trophies.

Rowant captain Chris Eaton was presented with the Division 1 trophy by Derek Holmes, editor of The Oxford Times.

The loudest cheers of the evening, though, came from the massed Horspath ranks as they picked up their rewards for a unique title treble - having won Divisions 3, 7 and 9B.

And to cap it all, they also won the Peter Baker Memorial Trophy - for the club whose 1st and 2nd XI have the most aggregate points - for a record third year running.

It was also a memorable night for Cumnor, who pulled off a double, with their 1st XI taking Division 2 and their 3rd XI winning Division 8.

They also provided the leading 2nd XI run-scorer in the shape of Australian Will Tuffley with 696.

Dinton's Paul Atkins, the Bucks captain, won the 1st XI batting award for the second successive year with 970 runs.

Bledlow Village's James Shirley collected the 1st XI bowling trophy for his 49 wickets, while Tiddington's Neil Smith won the 2nd XI bowling award for his 31 victims.

Congratulating all the winners, league chairman Derek Primett gave special mention to Horspath.

"It is a unique treble which will be hard to match over the coming years by any club," he said.

"Your feat is a credit to your club and testimony to an excellent youth policy."

He also paid tribute to Challow & Childrey president Don Pert, who died last week, describing him as a "wonderful character".
