We are writing to express our incredulity on reading the report of the recent Ofsted inspection at Eynsham Primary School and on reading the article in the Oxford Mail (April 5) on the subject.
As current or recent parents and having had a great deal of involvement with the school, we don’t recognise it at all from Ofsted’s report. Inadequate?
The overall ethos of care, happiness, inclusion and community involvement does not come through at all.
The report suggests that within three years standards have declined from good to inadequate, but our individual experiences of the schooling of our children do not reflect that.
We don’t know how to reconcile those two very different verdicts within such a relatively short span of time and with a leadership team who previously raised the standards from satisfactory to good.
It raises the question of the overall effectiveness of Ofsted – how can the current inspection process allow a school to drop from near-outstanding to failing in three years, when the leadership team has remained the same?
A school should never be complacent and we accept that improvements can always be made. However, in our experience, the leaders of this school never have been complacent.
This school is at the heart of our community and we are rightly proud of it. We hope we speak for many parents when we say we will be continuing to offer the school our support, and believe that Eynsham Primary School is far from inadequate.
