THE great-nephew of Charles Lightoller, the most senior officer to survive the sinking of the ocean liner Titanic in 1912, will visit Oxford on Saturday.
Valentine Palmer will sign copies of his new book Titanic: And the Strange Case of Uncle Bertie at Waterstone’s bookshop, in Broad Street, from 4pm.
Saturday marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic in the Atlantic on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York. More than 1,500 people died in the disaster.
- See Saturday’s Oxford Mail for an eight-page special pullout marking the anniversary, looking at the county’s links with the ill-fated liner
