Every single cake was made with a little bit of love because the bakers knew each one would help their comrades.
A team of military chefs from St David’s Barracks, near Bicester, and Army wives baked and decorated more than 700 cup cakes, cakes, cookies and flapjacks to raise £406.42 for soldiers’ charity Help For Heroes.
Sergeant Sarah Ward, Private Kayleigh Goodall and chef Lorne McCormack spent two days making the goodies, and on Friday set up a stall at Bicester market, in Sheep Street. And the cakes sold out in just three hours.
Sgt Ward, 34, pictured right with Pte Goodall, left, said: “It was part of the Help for Heroes colossal cake sale.
“I wanted to do it because I’m a soldier and Help for Heroes is supporting staff from our regiment. We had about 100 of the cakes donated by Army wives.”
Three Privates from 23 Pioneer Regiment, based at St David’s Barracks – Josh Campbell, Alexander Stringer and Craig Winspear – have been injured in explosions while serving in Afghanistan and their rehabilitation will be supported by the charity.
