A TRIUMPHANT Simon Lord ended his month-long endurance test on Saturday with his own “Roger Bannister moment”.
The 52-year-old had been running 10,000 metres a day for a month to raise money for the Oxfordshire Prostate Cancer Support Group.
Mr Lord, who is married with three children, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2010 and decided to run as many metres a day as men are killed by the cancer each year.
He had been running routes from his home in Cholsey every day.
But this weekend he ended the month-long test by coming on to the Kassam Stadium pitch at halftime during Oxford United’s loss to Morecambe.
He said: “It was my Roger Bannister moment.
“It was quite extraordinary and I don’t think I will have that many people applauding me again.”
Mr Lord, who is now in remission, managed to raise about £600 for charity but said his effort was also aimed at raising awareness of prostate cancer.
